Kropf Marine Completes Marina Renovation on Tight Timeline

Summary

Kropf Marine designed, manufactured, and installed a new floating dock system for Credit Village Marina.

Location – Mississauga, ON

Kropf Marine has completed delivery of a new commercial floating dock system at Credit Village Marina, including a unique curved main dock, as well as numerous upgrades and safety features.

Credit Village Marina, owned and operated by the City of Mississauga, is located on the Credit River near the mouth of the river at Lake Ontario. The marina’s floating docks were well past their projected service life, so the City released a bid to replace the dock system.

Kropf Industrial was the successful bidder, and was awarded the contract in January 2024. The project was for a complete removal and replacement of the entire 54 slip marina. Work to be completed included a rebuilt sidewalk and curb wall on shore, new access ramp and security gate and fencing, and new docks with electrical and water services.

As the project was to include a complete removal of the existing docks, the City wished to take advantage of the opportunity to dredge the basin prior to the new docks being installed. The project site was challenging, as access was extremely limited. Kropf worked with its subcontractors to formulate and manage a dredge plan that allowed for efficient removal and disposal of material, while complying with all applicable standards and best practices.

The marina basin features a curved shorewall along one side, and the City requested a dock system with a smooth curve to match this feature. Kropf designed and manufactured custom floating dock sections that seamlessly matched the curved profile of the basin.

The new dock system is constructed with steel pipe floats, epoxy-coated in order to maximize the service life. The steel pipe design offers unmatched stability and safety for users, as well as proven performance in significant ice and storm surge conditions. The docks are finished with advanced PVC decking, and anchored in place with concrete anchors. The dock system includes all-new power and water systems with new pedestals. Safety features include pedestals with life rings and fire extinguishers, as well as aluminum safety ladders for each slip. Other upgraded amenities include solar lighting at the finger ends and corner fenders for each slip.

The project was subject to a very tight timeline from contract award to completion. To meet the timeline, Kropf expedited its internal production and reallocated capacity from our other divisions. Kropf also worked closely with its subcontractors to maximize efficiency on site, including concurrent installation for different trades. The combined efforts of everyone involved allowed the facility to open on time, with no disruption to the slip holders.
